Dance studio sound can be a frustrating endeavor. Sound technology has advanced dramatically over time and finding an affordable, reliable, decent sounding, easy to install and operate sound system is more difficult than you might think. High-quality sound is important for your studio and hopefully this guide will help will drastically improve your studio experience and help your students and instructors alike succeed. Doing all of this without breaking the bank is a key part. We have designed our system to meet all of the above and hopefully give you ideas on how best to create your own system.
We decided that in order to connect to our system it would be through bluetooth. Either a smartphone, laptop, Ipad, etc. Since all of our instructors use these devices to store and edit their music.
We wanted to have no other buttons, adjustments, or dials. Our instructors should be able to control volume from their device yet still have quality sound.
Great sound is a must but like most, we were on a limited budget. Our system cost roughly $375/dance room including Bluetooth, amplifier, speakers, and wiring.
Since we did the work ourselves, simple installation was a must. In this case you need only to hang the speakers, run the wires and attach. Turn it on and its ready to go.
MECKKA has three dance rooms. One independent space that is 37 x 26, and one space that is 23 x 60 with a movable wall that can split it into two 23 x 30 rooms. This system has no problems at all filling these rooms with quality sound.
Our studio by design has somewhat of an industrial look and the walls are VERY tall with no ceiling other than the metal rafters and concreted ceiling that are part of the original building. This causes a huge amount of echo. We have mitigated this by adding acoustic panels to the walls that absorb the echo to a good extent.
Esinkin Wireless Audio Receiver for Music Streaming Sound System
NOTE: We use two different devices (see below) since you are unable to change the bluetooth name that shows up on your smartphone. For example, if you used two Esinkin devices, an instructor would see two bluetooth connection options on the smartphone and both would be identical causing confusion on which one to connect for a particular studio.
Polk Audio Atrium 6 Outdoor Speakers with Bass Reflex Enclosure
We specifically went with non-powered speakers. We did this since we had to hang them somewhat high on the wall and it would be too cumbersome to route both power and speaker wires to the speakers. These speakers work great and provide good quality sound. If you want more bass than what they already put out it would be easy to add a subwoofer to the system.
Fosi Audio V3 Stereo Amplifier Home Audio 300 Watts x2 Power TPA3255 Class D Mini Amp 2 Channel Audio Component
These amps are fantastic and so simple. I set the volume to about 3/4 and just leave it there so that the instructors can adjust the sound to whatever they like from their smartphones.
